Happy Sunday morning!
We’ve been snowed-in all week. A winter storm did its job — dumping icy snow and keeping temperatures low enough that nothing is melting anytime soon. Making it to a coffee shop just didn’t feel very smart. Here’s hoping for a more temperate week ahead. My hopes have been dashed. It will be cold until the end of the week! And I mean single-digits cold.
The last time we gathered for the Sunday Stroll, New Year’s had just arrived. Now, three weeks later, it feels like a lot has happened — both close to home and far beyond it.
On our front doorstep, we weathered a storm, my youngest headed back to school, and just before all of that, my husband and I squeezed in a quick trip to Paris to celebrate my sister’s 50th birthday. It was a spur-of-the-moment decision, powered by airline miles and a shared apartment to keep costs down — and it turned into something really special. Nine years ago, my sister Katrina traveled to Guam to celebrate my 50th. It felt good to return the love.
Beyond our own lives, there’s been a lot unfolding in the country and the world. This past week, my column focused on how we take care of ourselves as we move forward. No matter where you land politically, I believe we can all choose to be decent, kind people — especially toward those around us.
Rather than believing there’s nothing we can do to make a difference, I keep coming back to this: every little thing matters. Even something as small as helping a neighbor shovel snow from behind her car. How we show up, and the choices we make, leave a mark — often bigger than we realize.
And sometimes, that showing up looks like a quiet morning, a hot cup of coffee in hand, and a bernedoodle on your lap.

5 Gems for the Week
A long winter walk where the snow crunches underfoot and the world feels temporarily hushed. Don’t do this until the temperature is in the double digits.
Soup simmering on the stove — bonus points if it lasts for two meals.
A text or call to someone you love, just because you thought of them.
Planning a future trip, even if it’s months away — hope counts.
Letting yourself rest without explaining or justifying it.
As always, take what you need and leave the rest. ❄️☕
